BulkUp AI ("BulkUp AI", "we", "us", or "our") is a mobile nutrition and habit-tracking app that helps people gain weight and build muscle by tracking calories, protein, and progress. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the BulkUp AI mobile application and related services (together, the "Service").
We collect the account and health-related information you give us (such as your email, body metrics, weight logs, and food entries) so the app can build and track your personal nutrition plan. We use an AI provider (OpenAI) to calculate that plan from the profile details you enter, and — when you use the AI meal scanner — to estimate nutrition from the photo you take. We do not sell your personal information or use it for third-party advertising. You can edit your data or permanently delete your account from inside the app at any time.

1. Who we are
BulkUp AI is operated by the developer identified in the Contact section below, acting as the data controller for personal information processed through the Service. The app is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information.
2.1 Account information
- Email address and authentication identifiers when you create an account. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider (Clerk), including "Sign in with Apple", Google, and email. If you use Sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email, in which case we receive an Apple private relay address.
- Account identifiers such as your user ID, and basic profile details (for example, a name or avatar) if you provide them through your chosen sign-in method.
2.2 Profile, body metrics & fitness data
To create and maintain your personalized plan, you provide and we store:
- Gender and height
- Starting weight, current weight, target/goal weight, and your chosen weekly weight-gain pace
- Weight log entries over time, including optional notes you attach to a weigh-in
- Activity level, gym experience, and lifestyle preferences
- Diet preference (e.g., none, vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian)
- Calculated nutrition goals (daily calories, protein, carbs, fats, fiber, sodium, sugar) and your goal date
- Water intake logs
- Streak and activity data used for the consistency features
2.3 Food & meal information
- Meal photos you capture with the in-app camera for AI analysis (see Section 4).
- Logged meals and nutrition entries, including food names and macro values, whether added by AI scan, manual entry, search, or from the in-app food library.
2.4 Subscription & purchase information
Subscriptions and the free trial are processed by Apple or Google through our payments provider, RevenueCat. We receive subscription status details — such as whether you are on a trial or active plan, the product purchased, the store, renewal status, and expiration date. We do not collect or store your full payment card number or billing details; those are handled directly by Apple, Google, and their payment processors.
2.5 Device, usage & diagnostic information
- Push notification token, if you allow notifications, so we can send reminders you have opted into.
- Usage and analytics data — such as screens viewed, features used, and interaction events — to understand how the app is used and improve it.
- Crash and diagnostic data — such as error logs, device model, operating system version, and app version — to detect and fix problems.
3. How we use information
- To create, calculate, and maintain your personalized nutrition plan.
- To log and display your meals, weight, water intake, and progress.
- To provide the AI meal-scanning feature.
- To manage your account, authentication, and subscription/entitlement.
- To send push notifications and reminders you have enabled, and to let you manage them per type or pause them.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the Service, including analytics and crash diagnostics.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We rely on the following legal bases where applicable (e.g., under the GDPR): performance of our contract with you (providing the Service), your consent (e.g., camera access, push notifications, processing of health-related data), our legitimate interests (securing and improving the Service), and compliance with legal obligations.
4. AI processing
We use a third-party AI provider, OpenAI, to power two features. In both cases the data is sent to OpenAI solely to generate a result for you, is not used to identify you, and — under OpenAI's API terms — is not used to train its general models.
4.1 Personalized plan calculation
When you complete onboarding or update your plan, the profile attributes you provide — such as gender, height, current and goal weight, activity level, training experience, bulk intensity, diet preference, and lifestyle — are sent to OpenAI to calculate your recommended daily calorie and nutrition targets. We do not send your name, email, or photos for this step.
4.2 AI meal scanning
When you use the AI meal scanner, the photo you capture is sent to OpenAI to estimate the food's name and nutrition values. The estimate is returned to you as an editable suggestion that you confirm before it is saved. The scanner requires camera access, which you can grant or revoke at any time in your device settings.
AI outputs (both plan targets and meal estimates) are approximate and may be inaccurate. They are informational only and are not a substitute for professional medical or dietary advice.
5. Health & fitness data
Some of the information you provide — such as your weight, body metrics, and nutrition intake — relates to your health and fitness. We treat this information with care and use it only to provide the Service's features to you. We do not integrate with Apple Health or Google Fit, we do not use this data for advertising, and we do not sell it. BulkUp AI is a wellness and nutrition-tracking tool, not a medical device, and does not provide medical advice or diagnosis.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising. We share information only with service providers ("processors") that help us run the Service, and only as needed for them to perform their function:

We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, to respond to lawful requests, to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the Service, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case we will notify you of any change in how your information is handled).
7. Data retention
- We retain your account and plan data for as long as your account is active.
- Meal photos used for AI analysis may be automatically deleted after a limited period (target: within 90 days) unless retained as part of an entry you choose to keep.
- When you delete your account, we delete your associated personal data from our systems as described in Section 9, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal, tax, or accounting obligations or to resolve disputes.
8. Your choices & rights
- Access & edit: You can view and update your profile, plan, weight logs, and goals from inside the app.
- Camera: The AI scanner requires camera access, which you can grant or revoke in your device settings. The rest of the app works without it.
- Notifications: You can enable or disable push notifications per type, or turn them off entirely, in the app or your device settings.
- Delete: You can permanently delete your account and data at any time (see below).
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights such as access, correction, deletion, portability, and the right to object to or restrict certain processing. See Section 13 and contact us to exercise them.
9. Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account directly in the app: Profile → Delete account. This removes your user profile, plan, weight and water logs, daily summaries, and subscription records from our database, and deletes your authentication account with our sign-in provider.
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a subscription billed by Apple or Google. To stop future charges, manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings. If you cannot access the app to delete your account, contact us at the address in Section 15 and we will delete your data.
10. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — including encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers — to protect your information. Meal photos are compressed on your device before upload. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children
BulkUp AI is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The Service is intended for users 16 and older; if you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. International transfers
We and our service providers may process and store your information in the United States and other countries that may have different data-protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for international transfers.
13. Regional rights
EEA/UK (GDPR): You have the right to access, correct, delete, port, and restrict or object to processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know, access, correct, and delete your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
